Black Teas

Black Teas account for around 90% of teas sold in the west. They tend to have a stronger flavor and a longer shelf life than green teas, though they are made from the same Camelia Sinensis and Camelia Assamica plants as green, oolong, and white teas are made from. The darker color and "smoother" flavor versus other types of teas are a result of the complete oxidation process, in which temperature and humidity are controlled, prior to the drying stage. Although most commercial grade black teas typically use cut and/or broken leaves, we at Sparrowtail only sell high quality whole-leaf grades of black tea. As our teas have a fuller and more subtle flavor than commercial grade teas, we encourage you to try our black teas without initially using any milk or sweeteners.
